Meet Rosarita, a shy young mama with a heart ready to heal.
Rosarita is a ~1-year-old terrier mix who has already lived a lifetime of hardship, yet she remains a sensitive soul with so much love to give. She was rescued with a litter of puppies she fiercely protected—it was clear she had experienced more fear than comfort in her past. Now that her puppies are safe and thriving, it’s her turn to learn what safety and kindness feel like.
This sweet girl is very timid, still learning that hands can be gentle and that humans can be trusted. She does not like direct eye contact, being reached for, or being touched — but she watches closely, curious and hopeful. She follows her foster around the house, sniffing at her feet. It is clear she longs for connection, she’s just not quite sure how to accept it.
Despite her fears, she has a joyful and quirky side that appears when she goes on walks, where she loves to prance. She is very well-behaved on the leash when treated gently, but she is still learning that the clipping-on and taking-off moments don’t need to be scary. She isn’t reactive to dogs or people unless they try to touch her. Inside she is most comfortable in the safety of her crate, where she loves hoarding toys like a little dragon, or in other sheltered corners. She’s pee-pad trained, doesn’t bark, and gets along well with her foster sibling.
Rosarita will thrive in a quiet, patient home with someone who understands that trust isn’t given freely but earned slowly, over time, with gentleness and consistency. She loves peaceful, sheltered spaces, and she’ll blossom with someone who celebrates small victories and lets her grow at her own pace.
If you’re the kind of person who finds joy in helping a fearful dog discover safety, comfort, and eventually love, Rosarita may be the companion you’ve been waiting for. She’s a resilient spirit that hides a tender heart and she deserves a forever home where she can finally feel safe — one gentle step at a time.
