My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Diesel was brought in by a community member on September 2, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Diesel is a handsome, mature Mastiff mix with a big heart and an even bigger presence! When you first meet him, you'll notice his deep brindle coat, soulful eyes, and gentle, expressive face.

Diesel can be a strong, energetic dog, especially when he's excited or in busy environments, but he has also shown a calm, affectionate side with people he trusts. In quieter settings, he enjoys leaning in for pets, cuddling up close, and soaking in attention.

Diesel has made great progress during his time at the shelter - he's learned to settle more easily in his room and has been showing more relaxed, friendly behaviors toward familiar staff. He's eager for a patient adopter who can help him continue building confidence and channeling his energy in positive ways.

Because of his size and occasional reactivity around other dogs, Diesel would do best as the only pet in the home, with an adopter experienced in large breeds. A calm, structured environment and daily enrichment will help him thrive.

Diesel has so much love to give and just needs the right person to help him feel safe and at home again. Could that be you?

At SDHS:
Diesel has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Diesel is now ready for his new home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
