Austin Bulldog Rescue (ABR) is 100% foster-based, and does not have a shelter or facility where applicants can come meet dogs before applying.
Meet-and-greets with a potential match will occur after an adoption application is approved and a match is accepted.
ABR is a matching rescue -- while our teams take applicants' preferences into account, we ultimately match families with the dog best suited to their home and lifestyle.
The more thoroughly you answer the interview questions, the better the matching experience for everyone involved!
ABR DOES adopt dogs out-of-state. We do not ship dogs or approve third-party transport, and applicants MUST be willing to come TO Austin to meet any match.

Adoption steps
- Submit Application
- Submit an adoption application via our website. Candidates can apply for a specific dog or submit a general application.
- Interview
- Go through our interview process, including a virtual home check.
- Approve Application
- If applicants are approved, they will be notified by our team via email. They may or may not get a match, at this step.
- Meet the Pet
- Applicants must go to the foster's home to meet their match in person and are encouraged to bring their dog(s) and kid(s), if applicable.
- Sign Adoption Contract
- Review medical records, sign our adoption contract and pay the adoption fee in full.
- Take the Pet Home
- Adopters must pick up their dog in person and get them home safely. Sorry, ABR cannot ship dogs.
- Pay Fee
- Adoption fees must be paid in full before a dog can leave foster care. Once a contract is signed and a fee paid, the dog can come home!
