My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Akira, a black cat with a heart of gold and mesmerizing eyes to match. Her name is Japanese, and it can have many meanings depending on the kanji, including bright, clear, wisdom, or truth. Akira’s name is not meant to be ironic—while black cats are often associated with mystery and misfortune in the United States, Japan is one of many countries where black cats are thought to bring protection, prosperity, and good luck.

Akira isn’t actually from Japan—she came to Tabby’s Place via our Guardian Angel program after her dear human passed away. And although she wears a fur coat of black, Akira has been feeling blue. Despite being in a loving and caring environment, Akira misses having her own place and her own human.  She would love to find a forever home with a kind companion. She would love even more to curl up on a couch with that companion, filling the silence with contented purrs.

This super sweet kitty can be a little nervous at first, but Akira doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, and she gets along well with other cats. Akira would be happy as an only cat or in a home with other easygoing felines—as long as she’s promised her fair share of chin and butt scratches, which she adores! She has food allergies, so she`ll need to stay on a special hypoallergenic diet for the rest of her life to prevent flare-ups.

Additional adoption info

For an adoption fee of $150, you will take home a cat that has received the very best medical care and evaluation. Every cat that leaves Tabby’s Place has been thoroughly examined by a veterinarian, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, tested for FeLV and FIV, and treated for parasites.

We are currently offering two methods of adoption meetings:
1. Adopters can meet cats in person between 2-5PM daily. Appointments are strongly recommended, but we will make every effort to accommodate walk-ins where possible. Most cats and some select kittens are available for in-person meetings.

2. Adopters can meet cats and kittens via video meeting between 10:00AM-5:00PM daily by appointment only and subject to availability. Kittens in foster homes are only available for video adoption meetings.

Get started now by completing our online application. One or our adoption counselors will then contact you within 48 hours.
