Marcy Boots Can you imagine being seized from your home and brought to the HSHC? My roomie Bernard and I were both taken away by the Carmel Police Dept on August 20. I suppose they thought we weren`t being properly cared for. I am 6-years-old and I was spayed long ago; you can tell by my left ear being tipped. When I first moved into the shelter, I was scared out of my wits and would hide and hiss and try to escape. But after one month, I felt confident enough to seek attention from the staff and volunteers. Speaking of which, the interviewer lady (IL) came to talk with me. When she opened my door, I went right up to her and put my head in her hand. I began to purr loudly as she pet me until I decided to crawl into her lap. It was so pleasant being stroked and `loved on`. She told me that my coat was silky soft, and she loved petting me as much as I loved the attention. I hid my head between her arm and her side, and I think I could have stayed there all day. Once she closed the door, I went to eat the wet food I had earlier ignored. Because my ear was tipped (very slightly), the Feline Care Specialists think I would thrive as an indoor/outdoor cat. They will provide you with the best way to help me settle into your home and become familiar with living both inside and out. I am way too friendly and affectionate to be considered feral, so if you have been wanting a cat that can go outside and come back indoors, you must come to HSHC and spend time with me. 9-30-25

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
