Muffin is a 5-year-old, house-trained English Bulldog who’s calm, independent, and sweet once she trusts you. She loves walks, sits politely for treats, and prefers a quiet home where affection isn’t rushed. Apartment or house is fine (stairs too!). If you value peaceful company, she might be your perfect match.
—————
When Muffin’s person became seriously ill with cancer, she was surrendered to a local shelter — but her owner couldn’t bear the thought of her waiting there too long. They called us and asked if we could take her in, hoping we could find her the perfect forever home. And now, that’s exactly what we’re here to do.
At five years old, Muffin is everything you love about bulldogs — soulful, steady, and full of quiet charm — but she definitely has her own rhythm. Think bulldog with cat energy: tidy, observant, and happy to do her own thing until she decides you’ve earned her affection. She’s a little timid at first, but once she trusts you, she’ll wander over, lean gently into your hand, and sit politely for a treat like it’s your shared secret.
Muffin has a soft gray stripe down her back — her “lucky streak” — and a unique nose that gives her face extra character. Our veterinarian has confirmed she has no cleft palate or health issues, just her one-of-a-kind good looks.
She’s spayed, vaccinated, and house-trained. Muffin enjoys walks, simple routines, and peaceful surroundings. She doesn’t like to roughhouse or be carried, preferring calm, respectful affection instead. She’d do best as the only dog in the home, though she’s polite around others on walks. Muffin hasn’t met cats yet, and children should be 10 or older — she thrives on gentle energy and predictability.
Muffin is currently living safely in our kennels, cared for by people who adore her — but she’s ready for something more personal. She’s ready for a home. Whether that’s an adoptive family or a foster home willing to give her a quiet place to settle, Muffin will reward your kindness with companionship, patience, and the kind of loyalty that can only come from a dog who’s learned how to trust again.
If you’ve been looking for a calm, easy companion who simply wants a peaceful life by your side, Muffin might just be your girl.

So Cal Bulldog Rescue obtains homeless Bulldogs from owners who give them up to us, from individuals who find them as strays, from veterinarians when the dogs are given to them by the owners, and sometimes from animal shelters. Reasons for dogs being given up or abandoned are numerous but are often along the lines of "we have no time for the dog" or "we cannot afford the needed medical care".
Our volunteers provide foster care for homeless Bulldogs, place Bulldogs in new homes, maintain waiting lists of people who are willing to adopt, and provide education and counseling for Bulldog owners and adopters. Bulldogs taken into foster care are given necessary veterinary care, including vaccinations and heartworm preventatives. Temperaments are evaluated, and Rescue Network members do not knowingly place aggressive dogs in foster care or new homes. Training and socialization are also provided when needed.
Applicants for adoption are carefully screened via telephone interviews, home visits, and contacts with veterinarians and landlords, when applicable. Most rescue groups require the applicant to meet the Bulldog before a placement is arranged. The objective is to match rescued Bulldogs with the most suitable adopter.
Submit an adoption application through the Southern California Bulldog Rescue website.
In order to facilitate home checks and post-adoption follow-up/questions, our dogs must be placed in Southern California only. If you reside in Northern California or our of state, please contact the rescue in your area. Www.rescuebulldogs.org
