Summer is a sweet young adult Pitbull mix with a mostly white coat and a few special markings — including one adorable brown ear. When she first arrived at the shelter, she was extremely shy and shut down. Thanks to the patience, love, and care of staff and volunteers, she has blossomed into an affectionate dog who loves nothing more than cuddles and treats.
With strangers, Summer can still be a bit reserved at first, but a handful of treats is usually all it takes to win her over. She walks nicely on leash, has shown no signs of leash reactivity during her time with us, and enjoys calm strolls by your side.
During her dog-to-dog evaluation, Summer was neutral and seemed new to being around other dogs. By the end of her session, she began showing more interest and curiosity. If you have another dog at home, we strongly recommend bringing them in for a meet-and-greet to ensure it’s a good fit.

ADOPTION The Compassionate Choice. Choosing to adopt an animal rather than buying from a breeder or pet shop is the easiest and best thing you can do to help reduce the number of unwanted pets. Shelters across the country are filled with wonderful dogs and cats looking for safe, loving homes. Each and every one of them deserves to be loved. We ask all potential adopters or "guardians" to complete a comprehensive questionnaire and then meet with one of our trained adoption counselors who will help find the right pet for your lifestyle. Because your new pet is an important part of your family, we encourage you to bring ALL family members in to meet him or her, including your dog(s) if you are considering adopting one of shelter dogs. The adoption fees are $50-$100 for a cat and $100-$180 for a dog. This low fee includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, a registered micro-chip, and a wellness check.

Our shelter is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11am until 5pm and Thursday from 1pm until 7pm. We are closed every Tuesday and all major holidays.

The shelter is operated by Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, a non-profit organization dedicated to building a community responsible for pet stewardship and humane treatment of animals. The public/private partnership has created a compassionate and progressive shelter that serves as safe haven for both highly adoptable animals as well as those who require behavioral training or medical treatment before they can be adopted into loving homes.
