My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Curious, cautious, shy

Gerard came to us from another shelter so we don’t know anything about his background. Now that he’s in a foster home, we’re learning that he is a sweet soul who needs a loving and patient home while he learns not to be a silly scaredy cat.

This handsome boy was likely on his own in the wild, so he’s still quite shy of people. He hides under his foster’s bed during the day and comes out at night to eat, use the litter box, and play by himself. But he has already decided that it’s OK to sometimes be in the same room as his foster as long as his foster doesn’t get up and move around. He has even come close enough to sniff his foster’s hand, and he will also chase a string toy if his foster waves it around for him. In short, he’s making progress!

He is one of the quietest and easiest housemates and is fine if you go about your business. This gorgeous cream and white boy just needs a lot of love and patience! Given his progress already, we do think he will blossom into a loving companion in the right home.

Gerard has tested positive for Feline Leukemia. FeLV is not a type of cancer. It's a virus that causes a weaker immune system and often a shorter life-span. For the most part, 'FeLVies' are just like any other cat. APA! provides FeLV-related treatment and support post-adoption. He can only live with other FeLV+ cats, but dogs and other animals are just fine! Any questions? We'd love to talk with you about FeLV care.

All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team.
