My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*** Currently in New York!!!

Meet Kongi!

3 years | Neutered Male | 17 kg | Jindo Mix | 46 cm

Rescued in 2023 from a dog meat farm in Wanju, Kongi has been patiently waiting for his forever family.

Personality & Temperament

Kongi can be shy at first, but he warms up with treats and gentle interactions. Once he trusts you, he happily accepts petting and even rolls over to show his belly. Sudden movements or loud noises (especially from children under 13) can make him nervous, so a calm household would suit him best. Kongi avoids conflict and waits his turn for attention when around multiple dogs — but if there are only a few dogs, he sometimes approaches first for affection.

Dog Social Skills

Kongi is popular among younger male dogs. He might act aloof at first, but eventually joins in playtime and enjoys gentle wrestling and chase games. Kongi thrives in smaller groups rather than big, chaotic packs and has never started a fight.

With Cats

He hasn’t met cats yet but can be tested.

Energy Level

Low. Kongi enjoys a peaceful, relaxing lifestyle and spends a lot of time lounging calmly.

Walking & Outdoor Habits

Kongi sometimes pulls on the leash toward where he wants to go and prefers to focus on walking rather than sniffing. He usually walks slightly ahead of his person. He’s comfortable in quiet areas but may flinch near busy roads. He’s more confident walking when another dog is with him.

Other Behaviors

Kongi does not guard food from people or dogs. If another dog approaches his bowl, he may bark but never starts a fight. He is crate-trained, rides calmly in the car (though he needs help getting in), and does not have separation anxiety. Occasionally, he uses a soft bark to communicate when he wants something.

More about this rescue

Adopt Korean Rescue is a volunteer-based federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted dogs in South Korea find a new home in Canada.

We love Korean dogs. Many of them live in chains, give birth on the side of the road, or wander around with their pups. Some of them get caught and end up at dog meat farms or high-kill shelters in South Korea. They luckily meet us just before euthanasia or after many years of living in dog meat farms. We exist to hold their paws and help them find a forever home in Canada full of joy and happiness.

Our dog rescue work depends on our flight volunteers. They help us safely bring our dogs from Korea to Vancouver or Toronto airports, where the dogs will find loving forever or foster homes.
