Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Milo came into rescue with 4 other dogs. We were contacted by a friend of the owner who asked if we could place the dogs because she stated that they were all being kept outside in kennels and she really wanted them to be a part of a family, living inside and enjoying the good life. Milo is very friendly and an active little dog who would love a yard to romp in. He would also love a family that he could cuddle up with after playtime. We were told that Milo is approximately 2 years old and is a full dachshund. Milo seems to do well with other dogs but he can be dominate and want to fight with other males. Now that he is neutered, that alpha male complex may diminish but just keep in mind that he may do best as an only dog. He should be fine with kids as he is very friendly and loves people. We do not have any information about how he does with cats as he has lived In a kennel for most of his life and to our knowledge, hasn't been around any yet. We think that with proper introductions that he has a personality that would do fine but it is important that if you have cats, you take normal precautions to ensure safety for all. Because Milo has lived most of his life in a kennel outside, he will need to be housetrained so please be prepared to put in the work and effort to get him housebroken. He seemed to do well in a crate but he is used to being confined so it makes sense a crate would be comfortable for him and his "norm". We do not know if he is leash trained so he may need alittle training with that also. We think Milo will make a wonderful companion as he has a great temperament and enjoys companionship. He deserves a couch, a family to love and a life of leisure.
Milo saw the vet on 9/19/25 and was found to have no issues noted on his exam. He tested positive for heartworms and has been started on Simparica Trio for flea control and heartworm treatment and future prevention. This is a slow kill method so he can be maintained monthly on the Simparica (or similar) for treatment. He was also given doxycycline to help prevent any initial issues with its use. You will not need to incur any additional expenses for treatment if you choose to treat with Simparica. It will be the same monthly cost as that for a heartworm negative dog. If you opt to do the immiticide treatment, additional costs would apply but you can discuss all options with your veterinarian to determine the best options available for you and your budget. He did also test negative on his fecal Milo weighed 18.76 pounds as of 9/19/25.
If interested in giving Milo his forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Milo's adoption fee will be $400 to help cover the cost of his vetting and daily care while with us. We will only consider applicants who complete the adoption application and will determine whether the applicant would be a good fit for Milo based on the info provided in the application. If we feel that you will be a good match for him, we will set up a meet and greet appointment with you.
