My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

“Meet Weston, the ultimate cuddle bug with a heart that’s all in.

If you’re looking for a devoted, affectionate companion who believes love can never be overdone, Weston might just be your perfect match. This sweet boy came from a rural shelter and is now experiencing the world with fresh eyes, ready to soak up all the love and safety a real home can offer. He’s a world-class snuggler who thinks the best place to be is right on top of his person. If physical touch is your love language, Weston speaks it fluently.

Weston is just past the puppy stage, likely a little over a year old, and he’s already mastered the basics like potty training. He still carries that joyful, romping energy of adolescence and is working hard on making good choices about what not to chew, though he’ll tell you that tissues in the trash are practically irresistible. A variety of toys and some gentle redirection go a long way with him.

He’s a fast learner who wants nothing more than to make his person proud. Weston looks to his human for approval and reassurance, and that deep bond is one of his most special qualities. Once he chooses you, he chooses you with his whole heart.

Weston is very timid with new people and new sounds. He startles easily at things like loud noises or unfamiliar sights. But treats, patience, and time help him open up. On walks, he’s gaining confidence every day. He loves the adventure of being outside — chasing squirrels, exploring new smells — even if some things still spook him.

Because he’s had difficulty safely sharing food and toys with other dogs, Weston will do best as the only dog in his home. He’s also a bit anxious when his person leaves, but peanut butter Kongs are his go-to comfort item and help him settle.

He’s great in a fenced yard and unfazed by barking neighbor dogs. He’d be equally happy in an apartment, as long as he has a chance to burn off his puppy energy with playtime and walks. He loves to chase balls, even if he hasn’t quite figured out the “bring it back” part yet.

Weston is looking for a quiet, patient home with people who understand that shy, sensitive dogs blossom with love and consistency. In return, he will give you unwavering devotion, endless cuddles, and the kind of companionship that fills your days with warmth.

Loving Weston is incredibly rewarding, and he’s ready to give his whole heart to someone who will cherish him right back.”

More about this rescue

Needy Paws Rescue, located in St. Louis, MO, is devoted to saving animals in need, whose lives are in danger at high kill animal shelters & animal controls, those who are strays, have been abandoned or whose family has faced an extreme emergency, regardless of their size or breed.

Our organization is made up of Volunteers who have been involved in various animal rescues in the St. Louis area and we plan to use our knowledge & experience to make a difference. We believe spaying & neutering is a very important step in keeping pets healthy & happy, plus it helps decrease overpopulation. All of our rescued animals will be spayed or neutered, they will be microchipped to ensure they are identifiable if lost or stolen and they will be current on all of their vaccinations before going to their Forever Homes.

We are foster-based and all pets stay in approved Foster Homes that have passed inspections, reference checks and are qualified to take care of our rescued animals while they wait for their Forever Family. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will be making home visits and conducting veterinarian checks & reference checks to ensure the pets will have a safe, loving, happy home. Forever Families will be taught how to care for their pet and learn how to get the most out of their relationship with their new family member. We also have an after-care specialist who will be in contact with the families after the adoption to see how well they're doing together
