My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Sandy was brought in by her previous owner on April 27, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Sandy, a sweet senior girl with a heart full of love and a whole lot of pep in her step! Despite her age, she still lights up when she gets the chance to run off leash, chase squirrels and soak up all the attention she can get. Her whole body wiggles with joy when she sees her favorite people, and she loves nothing more than laying her head in your lap for quiet cuddle time. Sandy is very calm in the home and enjoys being pet - she's truly a gentle soul. While she can be a bit shy at first, she warms up with kindness and patience. Because of her sensitivity, she's looking for a home without young kids. Due to her age, we recommend yearly vet visits to ensure she's happy and healthy! With the right care and lots of chin scratches, Sandy is ready to thrive in a new home! Will you be the one to give Sandy the love and comfort she's longing for in her golden years? Come in and ask about her today!

At SDHS:
Sandy has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. She is now ready for her new home!

Shy/Fearful Dog: Sandy requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about her.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
