My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
This pet was brought in by their previous owner on September 12, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Jake is a mellow, affectionate pup who's happiest exploring the world with his nose. He lives for sniffy walks and is currently using them to help with his weight-loss journey! With consistent daily walks and a balanced diet, he's on the path to a healthier life, and is looking for an adopter who can help him get there. Jake is a dream on leash - he doesn't pull and walks calmly by your side, and shows no reactivity towards other dogs. He's done wonderfully with children (ages 6-10) and has lived peacefully with cats. Jake prefers to be the only dog in the home, as he can be uncomfortable around other dogs, particularly smaller ones - but he's done well ignoring them in public spaces. His previous owner described him as "very chill, low-key, intelligent and affectionate," and we couldn't agree more. He loves pets all over, leans in for affection and will happily roll over for belly rubs. If you're looking for a calm, intelligent and loving companion, Jake is ready to meet you! He's truly a joy to be around.

At SDHS:
This pet has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. This pet is now ready for their new home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
