My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Josie and Luna are two healthy bonded sisters that are ready for their forever home together. They were rescued in Sunset Park where they were found living in a neglected yard with access to a basement that was in disrepair.

Josie and Luna are very intuitive and playful kittens. They are still growing and have made great progress adjusting to people and indoor life while in foster. They need an adopter who can dedicate time to continuing their social development and provide lots of playtime –  a perfect opportunity to bond and build trust (and enjoy plenty of treats). In the daytime, they love napping in cozy spots and window watching! They are also avid viewers of Cat TV and they’ve hit subscribe on the highest quality bird, fish, and wildlife YouTube channels – making it convenient to throw a video on TV when you need to run errands. By evening they are ready for active playtime – that means lure toys and chase games! Underneath that sometimes-shy-kitten demeanor are two impressive climbers who enjoy cat trees! Later at night, they round out their busy day by asking for comfort and cuddles before settling in for a restful sleep. They are both still learning what it’s like to be indoor cats and how to interact with humans. They may be a little reluctant to get close at first, but with a calm approach, patience, kindness, and consistency you will soon experience how quickly these two learn to adapt and come out of their shells. Their curiosity is endless and will absolutely bring lots of joy and laughter to a home that is ready for live comedy everyday!

This sweet and dynamic duo will thrive with someone who can provide them with a safe space, lots of love, positive associations (associate your presence with treats or food to create positive interactions!). Both kittens are great eaters, they absolutely love wet canned food and are not picky with their proteins. While in foster they have loved all of the Weruva canned kitten formulas! They also love cat grass (wheat & oat grass), found at most pet supply stores. They really love to munch on it after dinner and it keeps them away from houseplants.

Josie and Luna love each other very much and share a very strong bond. They look to each other for comfort and tend to encourage one another when feeling adventurous. Keeping them together in the same household would be in their best interest. Josie and Luna are also great communicators — if they feel overstimulated, they will let you know with a tiny hiss, small paw tap, and retreat to a cozy spot on their own. This does not mean they are aggressive but rather may just need a little time or space to calm their excitement (especially at meal time, they are still learning what it’s like to have a consistent food source). While not super fans of being lifted or picked up, they’re gradually learning this part of socialization and have already found they love chin scratches and head bumps.

They love to seek high places to climb and keep their nails nice and tidy on cat scratchers. Scratchers have been a great addition to their play area since they are still understanding what nail trims are. An adopter that knows how to gently get them accustomed to having their nails trimmed would be ideal. A Churu or two will go a long way through the process!

Overall, Josie and Luna are two loving, sometimes shy, and playful cats who will show you that having both by your side is nothing but rewarding.

Both of their veterinary wellness exams came back with excellent results on their blood panels and dental exams. Since they have just started their journeys as indoor cats, they are still getting used to their cat carriers but are more inclined to cooperate if a snack is involved. With plenty of patience and consistency – a loving peaceful environment will absolutely encourage this pair to become their full selves. They cannot wait for their forever home!

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
