My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Abby is a reserved young gal who is deeply bonded to her sister, Jemma. She’s a quiet, gentle soul who can feel nervous in the busy shelter environment, but her true personality shines in playgroup, where she happily lets loose and romps around the play yard with other dogs. Once in a home, Abby begins to blossom—playing with toys, soaking up love and attention, and warming up even faster when treats are involved. She’s looking for a safe, supportive place to land, with a family who will offer her patience, grace, and plenty of reassurance as she continues to grow.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1971 as the Animal Aid Society of Englewood, Suncoast Humane Society began with a few cages where people left stray animals to be cared for. Over the years, our service area has grown to include over 400 square miles, covering three counties: Sarasota, Charlotte and portions of Lee.
Suncoast Humane Society provides a safe refuge for thousands of lost, abandoned and abused animals from our service area each year. We are committed to our open-door policy of never turning any animal away, regardless of health, temperament, breed or circumstances.
