My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Scout is a perky, charming, energetic 2 year old female tricolor smooth collie, who came into rescue when her owners fell upon hard times. She's a bright, active dog who needs a job and structure in her life. She is a loving dog also, and clearly wants close companionship with her person. She is thriving in her foster home with an experienced trainer. She's a to-die-for working dog, no doubt about it. She would excel in agility, or herding, or any of the canine sports.

Our ideal adopter for this dog would be someone who seriously wants to train a dog and who wants to start a dog in agility or herding. We found that she needs help with socialization, as she does not have a lot of experience outside of her house and yard. She gets along well with other dogs, but she can be pushy with them, so the match will depend on the other dog(s). Unfortunately, she does not seem trustworthy around cats and small animals--she is quite the huntress actually, but maybe the right cat could put her in her place. Because she is intense, she can only be placed in a home with older children.

We don't get many collies in like this one. She's being fostered by an agility trainer who thinks she's the most amazingly trainable dog she's ever seen. She's very agile, fearless, high drive, and wants to work. She's being clicker trained now and has started her agility foundation training. We will give preference to an experienced dog trainer who will train Scout for performance events such as agility. Posted 06.25.06 Updated 01/16/2007.
