My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Murphy is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, born March 2023.

Here are a few things we know about Murphy:

  • Active and likes to explore followed by a nap in the sun

  • House trained

  • Friendly with other dogs and has been around a Golden Retriever

  • Prefers women, has had issues with men

  • Leery of strangers and will need slow intros to new people (does better with strangers when his people aren't around)

  • Scared and reactive to young children, might be okay with teens

  • Needs personal space for dining so he feels comfortable while eating

  • Not comfortable being crated - seems scared of the kennel

Murphy would do well in a home with one or two adults.   He needs a fenced yard so he has a space to play and run around.  When he's ready for a nap, he would love to cuddle with you and maybe get a few belly rubs.

The suggested adoption donation for Murphy is $600, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.

Adoptions for Murphy are limited to the area within 50 miles of Omaha so that he can continue to take advantage of free training from our certified positive reinforcement trainers.

Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver.

Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.

More about this rescue

Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue, Inc. is a not for profit organization formed in 2014 by a small group of devoted animal lovers, in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area, with many years of rescue experience wanting to make a difference in the lives of dogs. Our rescue focuses on small breed dogs, less than 35 pounds, of any age. It is all volunteer based, and all of our rescue dogs are living in the homes of our volunteers.
Our rescue is unique in that we offer supportive services, such as education and training, to owners considering relinquishing their pet in an effort to try to keep the dog in their home whenever possible. We also educate and offer placement assistance to owners attempting to rehome their pets through social media sites, which can often be risky for the pets as well as the owners.
