Garfy is a 10-year-old Blue Heeler mix (45lbs) with a big heart, a loyal streak, and way more pep than his age would suggest. Garfy has settled easily into his foster home routine and acts much younger than 10, especially when he knows something exciting is about to happen.
Garfy is generally good with other dogs, though he can struggle with personal space when he gets excited and may become a bit mouthy in play. He isn’t trying to be pushy—he just gets enthusiastic—so he would do best with dogs that tolerate that or with thoughtful supervision. We haven’t seen him with cats or kids. While he is not aggressive, his excitement and lack of situational awareness when stimulated make him better suited for a home with older children or adults.
With people, Garfy is sweet and affectionate once he feels safe. He can be nervous around new people at first and may bark or keep his distance, but with time and patience he warms up well and enjoys attention from both men and women. He is very bonded to his people and loves being close, including cuddling and inviting himself into bed at night.
Garfy is housebroken and does a great job signaling when he needs to go outside. He has not shown any destructive behaviors. On walks, he sometimes confuses a fast pace with play and may grab the leash, but he redirects easily and walks nicely during calmer strolls. He enjoys a structured routine and prefers starting his day with a walk, after which he is content to relax for most of the day.
He is extremely food motivated, and learns quickly—often picking up new commands faster than expected. He is curious, adaptable, and respectful when told no, even around human food. While he’s okay with some alone time, he doesn’t love being left behind and prefers being part of the action.
Garfy would do best with an experienced dog owner who understands that excitement doesn’t equal bad behavior. He thrives with routine, enjoys regular walks, and doesn’t need a highly active home—just consistency and understanding.
He is loyal, affectionate, and full of love, and his age shouldn’t overshadow how much life and devotion he still has to offer.
