My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This beautiful 2-year-old girl named Susie  was saved just in time from euthanasia at Downey ACC by  @savinggizmosfriends  in partnership with  @grandmasbarnrescueandsanctuary  . She is an is an independent, adventurous girl who loves the great outdoors. ☀️

She’s only 53 lbs. She’s sweet., dog-friendly and she’s doing her best to trust again.

Susie was found as a stray and was so shut down in the shelter. Quiet, scared, pacing softly in her kennel. The world felt like too much… until the right people saw her, and said: “Not today.”

She still needs a patient long-term foster or even better - a forever home. One thing’s for sure — Suzie is not a “crate life” kind of dog. She thrives with freedom, fresh air, and humans who understand her confident, spirited nature. She’s scared at first and howling needs time to warm up but once you gain her trust, she’s pure love. She needs someone patient, gentle, and kind. If that’s you, please reach out.

Currently being in a temp foster home, but still seeking a longterm or permanent place to land.

More about this rescue

Tucked away in the wide-open spaces of Northern Nevada, Grandma’s Barn Rescue & Sanctuary is a safe and loving refuge for animals in need. We provide care and shelter to horses, donkeys, and dogs, and dream of expanding our rescue to welcome cows, goats, and other farm animals in the near future.

Our name is inspired by our beloved great-grandmother, who at 99 years old continues to share her deep love for animals. Grandma’s compassion is the heart of our mission—to give every animal a second chance at life, whether through permanent sanctuary, foster care, or adoption into a forever home.

At Grandma’s Barn, we believe that every animal deserves to feel safe, valued, and loved. Whether you’re looking to adopt, foster, support, or simply follow along, we’re so glad you're here. Welcome to the barn—where love lives, and every animal matters.
