My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Don’t let the “special needs” tag scare you away from this little cutie pie! While Ginny does have IVDD, and may be prone to the occasional flare up, she is also the best snuggle bug one could ever hope to meet! AND she’s the strongest little fighter!

Just on October 4th, the first day her foster took her home, she was practically skeletal at just 8.5 lbs and was struggling with intermittent paralysis that left her back knuckles bloody from dragging them around. She also had signs of being used as a breeder, even though she’s just 2.5 years old!

Today (December 5th as of writing), she’s a solid 12ish lbs and you’d never guess the horrors of her past! She LOVES romping around, battling, playing tug-of-war, and frolicking with her foster family’s two other dogs (a young Havanese, and an older maltipoo)! It’s so fun watching her try to tackle the bigger 15 lb maltipoo now that they’ve become good buddies!

The foster likes to describe her special needs as follows:
1. She needs help with stairs
2. In the event of a flare up, she’ll be prescribed rest.
That’s it! Aside from that, her care is the exact same as our fully able-bodied dogs!

Ginny’s ideal family would likely see her in a one story home, though she does not mind being carried up and down the stairs. She actually LOVES being held! Ginny would also do best with a regular playmate, whether that be another dog or an active family, but her dominant personality would make it harder to bond with another “alpha” lady dog in the house. It took at least 6 weeks before she and the maltipoo learned how to play together, though she and the Havanese were BFFs from day one!

While Ginny has a very gentle demeanor (and the kindest, softest eyes I’ve EVER seen), she’s also quite protective, always warning us about the doggy in the window (ie, her own reflection) at night! She also gets a bit over eager when offered a piece of green bean. They’re her favorite treat!

If the idea of a *slightly* wobbly guard dog with the silliest ears and kindest eyes interests you, please don’t hesitate to apply! She’d love to meet you!”
