My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rumba is an easygoing feline who loves nothing more than lounging in his favorite spot and soaking up attention. He’s happiest when he’s getting gentle pets and will happily stretch out for long, lazy naps. Quiet and relaxed by nature, Rumba has a calm presence that makes him a comforting companion. He may not be the most energetic cat, but his affectionate side shines through in the sweetest ways.

More about this shelter

The Gateway Area Humane Society was established in 1982 with a deep commitment to protecting and improving the lives of animals in our community. In the early years, we operated without a physical facility, focusing our efforts on neglect and cruelty investigations, follow-ups, and rescuing animals from county shelters and directly from the public. Even then, our goal was clear: to provide care, compassion, and second chances to animals in need.

Over the years, we've grown into a full-service organization with a shelter and spay/neuter clinic, allowing us to expand our impact. We house both dogs and cats with the hope of helping them find their forever homes. We occasionally partner with out-of-state rescues to further our mission.

At the heart of everything we do is the belief that the only long-term solution to pet overpopulation is to promote spaying and neutering in every way possible. Through community education, accessible services, and dedicated rescue work, we remain committed to creating a safer, more compassionate world for animals—one pet at a time.
