My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOCATION: Oak Grove, KY
DOB: 01/07/2023

Meet Big Boy, a tan and white Great Dane–Great Pyrenees mix whose soft heart and quiet spirit make him truly unforgettable. After spending more than a year in a shelter, he arrived thin, scared, and unsure of the world, but even then it was clear there was something special behind those sad eyes. With time, patience, and the safety of foster care, he’s slowly learned that life can be gentle — and that people can be, too.

Big Boy can be reserved when first meeting new people, especially men, but once he feels safe, he shows his goofy, affectionate side. He forms deep bonds with the people he trusts and becomes a loyal, loving companion who enjoys cuddles, gentle attention, and simply being close. A calm, low-traffic household is where he thrives best. Loud noises, sudden movements, and busy environments overwhelm him, so he’s looking for a peaceful home where he can truly relax.

This sweet boy is fully housetrained, crate trained, and rides well in the car. He’s an easygoing walker who enjoys slow strolls and quiet time in the yard, but at heart, he’s a couch potato who prefers comfort over adventure. He currently lives with dogs and cats and gets along wonderfully with them. He’s also lived with children and done well, but he would feel most comfortable with older kids or teens who understand his need for space and calm. Because he’s still learning to trust and can panic when scared, he will need a securely fenced yard and a family committed to keeping him safe.

Big Boy is especially comfortable with women, and he would do best in a home where they are the primary caretakers or where any men present are patient, dog-savvy, and willing to give him the steady companionship he needs to build confidence. He relaxes more easily when he has another dog around, and he would love a friendly canine companion to show him the ropes.

He has made tremendous progress with the help of anxiety medication, and once he feels secure, his sweetness shines. Despite having some hip dysplasia, he moves comfortably and enjoys his outings. He has also been treated for Lyme disease and ehrlichiosis, and those health issues have been resolved.

Big Boy has come so far, and he’s ready for a family who sees not just where he’s been, but where he’s going. With patience, kindness, and a quiet place to land, this resilient, gentle boy will blossom into the devoted companion he’s always wanted to be. If you’ve got room on your couch — and in your heart — he’s ready to meet you.

More about this rescue

To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve.

To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heartworm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us.

We have been rescuing Great Danes since 2011 and we take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wishlist, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster.
