My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Gus is a handsome hound mix who is looking for a new home. He's currently in a NJ foster home.

Gus has a playful spirit and a heart of gold. He's a typical hound who likes to sniff, so a fenced yard is required. This good boy really enjoys attention and affection. Gus gets along wonderfully with other dogs and rides beautifully in the car.

Gus is neutered, up to date on vaccines and recently completed treatment for heartworm. Gus' adoption fee is $450.

Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training   prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through they deserve a loving, committed home.

If you are interested in learning more about me, and possibly making me part of your family, please go to wag-on-inn.com. To apply, click HERE or on our website, go to Adoptable Pets and Adoption Application. A Wag On Inn volunteer will be in touch soon!

Foster Feature
General Personality
: Gus is a very happy boy, he loves to play with his toys, loves other dogs, enjoys the outdoors. He had a medium energy level and loves to run around.

Daily Routine: Morning walk, breakfast at 8, plays a little then just hangs out . He goes out in the yard throughout the day and is happy to play with his toys in his own. His love for being outside would require him to have a fence.

Is the dog housebroken? Yes

Behavior Around Dogs, Cats, or Kids: He loved other dogs. He is gentle around his older and larger foster sister who isn’t much for playing. He has not been cat tested but ignores them on walks. In a home environment I think he’d want to play with them.

Energy Rating (1 = very high; 5 = very low): 3

Leash Walking Rating (1 = difficult; 5 = perfect): 3

Leash Behaviors: No problems

Crate Rating When Left Alone: Goes willing into the crate and stays calm

Does the dog sleep through the night? Yes

What makes him/her happy? He loves being with people and getting pets and cuddles but also loves to play with his stuffed toys.

What makes him/her nervous or unhappy? If there is a new noise he may jump and seem startled but moves on. New people have him initially standoffish but he warms up quickly.

Other Quirks: He may put a little game of chase to stay out longer. Treats or his foster sister can lure him in. He collects thing, like shoes and brings them to his hangout for the day. He does no damage and it’s only shoes that are left out. He also does this with his toys. It very funny. He is a funny boy!

Other Displayed Behaviors: For being a hound mix there is very little barking. It happens at appropriate times, when he’s playing or occasionally if he sees someone out the window.

Current Walking Device: Regular leash and martingale

Currently Eating: Purina Pro

More about this rescue

Wag On Inn Rescue, A NJ recognized 501(C)3 organization, located in Freehold, NJ, is a small group of dedicated volunteers, trying to rehome dogs and cats. We have a variety of animals looking for their forever home. The animals are worked with individually to be socialized with other animals and with people. Some of the dogs are obedience trained and housebroken. Special care is also taken in working with animals on basic house manners. We have two types of ways we help the animals. One is our rescue program, where we pull animals from shelters and they stay with us until adopted, we also have a "referal program" where we help owners of pets try to find them new homes. with this program, the pets stay with their owners until a new home is found, and adopted from the owner.
