At just 1 year old, Benji found himself in one of the scariest places a young dog could be—alone, confused, and terrified in a loud shelter after being surrendered by his owner. Not because he did anything wrong, but because animal control was called for having too many dogs in the home.
His previous owner described him as playful, friendly, and sweet, but shelter life quickly took a toll on his spirit. Benji was labeled rescue only due to his extreme fear—he would alligator roll, cower, defecate in fear, show whale eyes, and even snap when approached.
Now safe with No Stray Left Behind, Benji is beginning to decompress and learn that gentle hands and kind words mean safety and love. With patience, structure, and trust, we know this shy boy will blossom into the happy, loving companion he was meant to be.
