Their adoption process

We strive to place each animal in the home that best fits their needs and your family’s lifestyle. If an adoption is not the right match, we will gladly help recommend a more suitable option. Puppies and kittens adopted before they are old enough to be spayed or neutered will be contacted when they reach the appropriate age to be altered. This process and expectations will be discussed further at the time of adoption.

Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
    1. View our 22 kennels of dogs and our 28 cages of cats to find your purrfect pet!
  2. Submit Application
    1. On our www.leitchfieldanimalshelter.com website.
  3. Approve Application
    1. You will know within a day if you are approved for this specific pet or we may suggest a pet that will better fit your situation.
  4. Meet the Pet
    1. Bring your dog to meet another dog if recommended.
  5. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. Our contract states you understand the care of the animal is your responsibility and you will return them if you can no longer care for them
  6. Pay Fee
    1. Cats start at $50 fully vetted, dogs start at $85 fully vetted, some of our animals have been sponsored to lower the adoption fee.
  7. Take the Pet Home
    1. Most pets will be able to take home the same day you apply.
