My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, I’m Opalite!

I was brought in as a stray guinea pig with my ex-roommate, Honey. We were living together, but the stress of moving caused us to be separated- I was getting a little bossy about my territory. I would likely do well with a younger, more submissive friend who will let me be in charge. My exact age is unknown, but it`s estimated that I`m an older gentleman. Despite it, I`m happy and healthy, curious, and a little bit goofy. I would be great for experienced and new adopters alike.

*** I`m a volunteer favorite and here`s why:
`Opalite loves being held on my lap and being brushed. He enjoys exploring during his floor time. He is a very curious little guy and stays quite close to me and liked putting his front paws on my legs. Sometimes he would allow me to pet his nose and head while he was loose in the enclosure. Very nice little fella!`
`Opalite is beautiful and lovely guinea pig, always a pleasure to see.`
`Very nice animal and is very curious. I love all of her little squeaks and how playful she is.` ***

My adoption fee includes a certificate for a free vet exam.

I came into the shelter as a stray and the above information is based on my behavior seen while in the shelters care. Expect to learn more about me after adoption.

Thank you for taking time to learn a little about me! If you think we would be a good match, call (541) 689-1503 x117 and ask to meet me! I’m looking for my forever home and it could be with you!

More about this shelter

Greenhill Humane Society has been caring for animals in Lane County since 1944. We operate the only animal shelter within the Eugene/Springfield area. Our programs include animal adoptions; reuniting lost animals with their families; disaster response; crisis care boarding in situations of domestic violence, medical emergencies, and other crisis situations; spay/neuter for free roaming, un-owned community cats; a pet pantry; on-site volunteer opportunities; foster care and humane education.

Last year, we helped reunite or find new loving homes for 2,826 animals. In addition, we provided 469 cat spay/neuter surgeries to assist cat caregivers in reducing feral cat over-population.

Greenhill is a private non-profit and relies on donations for a majority of its budget. The generosity of our local community enables us to provide a high level of care to lost, abandoned, and neglected animals while at the same time helping pet owners in need.
