My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This kitten is through Orphan Annie's Neonatal Rescue. Please do NOT submit and application to Austin Siamese Rescue. Please only submit an application via the link attached, our website (www.orphanannies.com), or via email at orphananniesneonatalrescue@gmail.com

If you're looking for a truly one of a kind cat, look no further! Whoopi is an absolute SUPER STAR! In her 5 short months of life so far, Whoopi has garnered quite the social media following. She's so much sass, and so much sweet all in one. Get your popcorn and settle in for a sorry of survival and commitment...

Whoopi first came to Orphan Annie's Neonatal Rescue as a tiny kitten with a cleft palate. Under normal circumstances, breeders will euthanize kittens born with cleft palates because the amount of time and dedication it takes to keep a cleft kitten alive and healthy is well beyond the capacity of most people. Cleft kittens a require a specialized feeding technique that utilizes a bite block to tube feed these kittens 5-6 times a day for months on end. They can not effectively eat by mouth until their cleft is repaired. And this surgery should not be performed until the kitten is at least 4 months old. So when the breeder reached out seeking a compassionate surrender to avoid euthanasia, we at Orphan Annie's took on the momentous commitment without hesitation. We believe that all lives are worth saving.

The founders of OANR shared Whoopi as a foster, and provided around the clock tube feedings, breathing treatments, and often antibiotics, to keep Whoopi alive and healthy. We allocated thousands of dollars to provide the best food, and the best surgeon in Central Texas for these complicated cleft repairs.

Following Whoopi's repair, she had significant complications, and the founders of the rescue had to manually hold Whoopi's airway open for over 24 hours. Had she been with anyone other than the Pediatric Nurse Anesthesiologist who founded this rescue, and her extremely capable rescue partner who stayed up all night maintaining her airway; she would have not survived. We watched every breath for over a week, sleeping in shifts, and intervening as needed.

The absolutely incredible news is that all the positive healing vibes and support from her followers, Whoopi made a full recovery. She is now eating everything, and living her absolute best life. Shes obsessed with stealing little snacks when she can, and giving kisses to thank her rescuers for saving her life.

Because Whoopi had such complicated medical needs, she has been with humans her entire life. She is extremely loving, friendly, and sassy. She is an absolute comedian, and her antics will keep anyone entertained. She is truly one of a kind.

Although we are posting Whoopi up for adoption, we want to be completely transparent in saying that Whoopi will be a very expensive cat to own. She is prone to recurrent upper respiratory infections due to the severity of the brachiocephaly. She also has to be closely monitored while drinking water and eating, and she requires frequent saline breathing treatments and nasal suctioning. The adopter must be home during the day, and have some experience with medical fostering or adopting. We will be extremely cautious about who we adopt her out to, as we have committed so much time and resources to giving her a chance at life.

Again, Whoopi is not being adopted out through Austin Siamese Rescue. They have graciously allowed us use of their platform to help find Whoopi the best home to meet her needs. Do not submit and application through ASR. Please email orphananniesneonatalrescue@gmail.com, and submit and application via the link attached.

We will be taking our time processing applications, as to ensure the perfect home is found  so please be patient if you submit an application. If she is the right fit for you, she will be worth the wait, we promise

Additional adoption info

Interested adopters go through a careful screening process to include reference checks, telephone interviews, and where appropriate, home visits. No cat will be placed in a new home which allows cats to go outside. The adoptive owners agree to give Austin Siamese Rescue, Inc. the option of reclaiming the cat, should the adoption not work to the advantage of the new owner and the cat.

Adoption fees for Austin Siamese Rescue, Inc. range from $100 to $225 and include such vet work as combo test, vaccinations, worming and flea control, and microchip. We spay or neuter all of our cats prior to placement and most of our kittens, depending on their size and readiness.

More about this rescue

Founded in 2007, Austin Siamese Rescue is a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focused on rescuing and rehoming Siamese cats and their non-Siamese companions. Our goal is to provide a safe haven for cats from various backgrounds, including shelters, abandoned, and neglectful situations, as well as those whose guardians can no longer care for them.

All of our cats are cared for in private homes by dedicated volunteers who offer their time and love to ensure each cat receives the best possible care. We are committed to finding loving, permanent homes where these cats can thrive and be cherished for the rest of their lives.

At Austin Siamese Rescue, we believe every cat deserves a second chance at happiness and a life filled with love. Through our rescue efforts and community support, we aim to make a positive impact on the lives of the cats we serve and the families who welcome them into their homes.
