My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet China – A Sweet, Shy Girl Ready to Bloom
China is a gorgeous one-year-old black cat who has come such a long way since arriving as a socialization foster. When she first entered her foster home, she was scared and anxious, preferring to keep to herself — but never once showed aggression. With time, patience, and a safe space to settle in, China has slowly revealed her sweet and curious personality.

Now that she’s comfortable, China loves to explore, play, and “chat” with her people. She isn’t a cuddler just yet, but she does like being near her humans and will often choose to hang out in the same room, keeping you company. She’s becoming more confident every day and will continue to blossom in a kind, understanding home.

China has done well with other cats. Additionally, she travels calmly in her carrier and has been wonderfully tolerant of nail trims and receiving medications — even ear drops!

This sweet girl has worked hard to overcome her fears, and she deserves a forever family who will appreciate her spirit and celebrate each step she takes. If you’re looking for a companion who will reward your patience with trust and love, China may be the perfect match.”

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of North Central Florida was created in 2018 when the leadership of the Alachua County Humane Society, Gainesville Pet Rescue, and Helping Hands Pet Rescue decided to permanently join forces. By becoming the Humane Society of North Central Florida, our organizations were able to effectively streamline services for pets and pet owners, eliminate any duplication of services, maximize our community’s resources, and improve the life-saving abilities of the entire region.

Our founding organizations have been dedicated to serving pets in Alachua County for more than 40 years. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is a limited intake, no-kill animal rescue shelter. The animals in our facility are transferred from open-intake and/or managed admission municipal shelters across North Central Florida. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is an independent, local 501(c)(3) organization. As such, we do not receive funding from federal agencies, nor are we affiliated with any other state or national organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States or the ASPCA.
