My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**I am bonded with my brother Loki, and we must go home together**

Thor and Loki are at the shelter because they were given up by their owner because the owner was moving and couldn`t take the cats with them. They both use the litter box with no issues, are relatively low energy, and do not need to live with an experienced cat owner. They can be good with men and women. They are not aggressive toward children, but children can be a bit scary for them. We`d recommend a home without children under 12 years old, but we don`t believe the occasional visiting children would be an issue. They are both good with other cats and good with dogs.

Their foster home had this to say about them:
`These brawny brothers would love a couch to call their own, even if it’ll take them a little while to feel comfortable on it. Thor is the braver of the two, but both boys will need a little time to gain confidence and feel secure in new surroundings.

`Once they’ve settled in you’ll see that you have two of the best biscuit makers ever. Kneading with their giant paws is one way they show their contentment. Another is rubbing their cheeks all over you. Loki is a super snuggler when you’re laying in bed.

`Neither cat really likes treats, but cat grass and catnip are huge favorites. They prefer watching real birds out a window over Cat TV or playing with toys, unless it’s a laser pointer. They’re crazy about those!

`If you’re looking for two chonky boys to remind you to slow down and recharge, then Thor and Loki are your guys.`

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

Applicants do not need to commit to a particular animal, but may indicate particular ones of interest they see on our website.

Approve Application

Staff will preapprove the application, then schedule the applicant for a meet & greet appointment with the animal(s) they are interested in.

3.

Meet the Pet

The applicant may meet the animal(s) they are interested in and then make the decision on whether they would like to move forward to adopt.

4.

Sign Adoption Contract

When the applicant decides to move forward with adoption, there is a short adoption agreement to sign.

5.

Pay Fee

We charge an adoption fee of $100 for cats and dogs, $40 for rabbits, and $10 for other small animal types.

6.

Take the Pet Home

Many times animals are able to go home the same day as their meet & greet appointment.

Additional adoption info

The Ames Animal Shelter's adoption process is all about ensuring the right match for the benefit of both the people and the animal. We use our application screening process to pre-approve applicants for general adoption. This gets all the boring paperwork stuff out of the way so when you come in to the shelter we can focus with you on finding the perfect furry friend match.

Our applications are not a simple pass/fail process, but instead are an opportunity for us to gather information on the needs of your family and the situation you'll be bringing an animal into.
