My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rose, the mixed breed (we are guessing vizsla, maybe boxer?). Rose arrived at the Shelter at the end of September and has taken some time to blossom. She has gone out to sleepovers with a volunteer who reports: “Rose was such a fun houseguest this weekend. She loved riding in the car, enjoying both sticking her nose out the window and sleeping in the passenger`s lap. She had a blast exploring every corner of the house, but also settled beautifully. Give that girl a blanket and she`ll tuck herself in for you! She was easy to have around—I could even eat food while she slept in my lap. Her favorite thing in the world was playing with her toys. She carried her stuffy around the house everywhere—it reminded me a lot of Linus and his blanket!”

Rose may thrive in a dog savvy home that will give her time to decompress and acclimate. A home with another dog may be a fit after a slow, thoughtful introduction as well as management.

Rose`s adoption fee is sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation thanks to “Leave No One Behind fund” – designed to adopter’s eyes towards animals who have been in the Shelter’s care a little longer than average waiting for the right adopter.
The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!

Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
