Meet the Pet
This helps Feline Canopy of Care, Inc. with pet care costs.
Ruthie was discovered living beneath the YMCA in St. Augustine, doing everything she could to keep her five kittens alive. Life outdoors had clearly been hard on her. Though she may have once been someone’s pet, she was deeply frightened of people and unsure who to trust.
In the beginning, Ruthie spent much of her time hiding, only slipping out to eat after making sure her kittens had been fed first. Once her babies moved on to another foster home, Ruthie slowly began to show progress. Little by little, she started to let her guard down.
She still hides at times when she feels unsure, but she has grown especially close to her feline friend, Stewie (pictured with her), and enjoys the companionship of the other foster kitties. Having another confident cat around seems to help her feel safe and understood.
Her favorite time of day is whenever her foster mom is relaxing on the bed. That’s when Ruthie feels the most secure — she’s often the first to hop up, ready for gentle pets and quiet affection. It’s in these peaceful moments that you see her true self.
She may have a face that looks a little grumpy, but Ruthie isn’t grumpy at all — she’s simply timid and cautious. With patience, a calm home, and a friendly feline companion, Ruthie will continue to blossom into the sweet, loving girl she’s learning it’s safe to be.
We provide all initial wellness care, including vaccines, deworming, checking for mites etc., for each kitten and cat under our care. All cats and kittens available for adoption have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, combo tested and given a rabies vaccine. Our adoption fees also cover lifetime microchip registration. To apply to adopt, please visit our website www.fcocinc.org and click "Adopt" under the cat you're interested in.
