Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Birdie – Senior Pomeranian, 10 Years Old and Approximately 10lbs
Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Mays Landing, New Jersey for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit.
Birdie is a gentle, shy senior Pomeranian who is looking for a calm, patient forever home. She originally came to us from a difficult situation and made wonderful progress in her foster home. Birdie was recently adopted, but due to unexpected changes in her adopter’s life, she has returned to foster care through no fault of her own.
Birdie gets along beautifully with both dogs and cats. She relies on the presence of another dog for comfort, so a home with at least one friendly, calm dog is required. She is a quiet, reserved girl who watches everything around her with curiosity, and with time and kindness she continues to build confidence.
She is pee pad trained and still working on full housetraining. Birdie is hard of hearing (possibly deaf), but her vision is good, she tolerates grooming well, and she is in overall good health. What is great about Birdie, is she only needed a cleaning at the vet!
Birdie would do best in a home that:
• Is calm and predictable
• Has small-dog or Pomeranian experience
• Has at least one other dog to help her feel safe
• Can provide patience, gentle guidance, and one-on-one attention
• Understands that she needs time to trust new people
Birdie doesn’t need much — just a loving adopter who will let her settle in at her own pace and give her the safe, peaceful life she’s always deserved.
If you’re ready to give Birdie her true forever home, she is ready to meet you.

The goal of Senior Dog Haven & Hospice is to find the best home possible for our senior dogs. To assist us in this endeavor, SDH&H requires a fully completed application, references, and a visit to your home by one of our trained volunteers. For this reason we only process applications within a reasonable commute from the dog's foster home.
Our adoption fee is $200, however we offer a discounted rate of $150 for senior adopters over the age of 65.

More about this rescue
We are a small, dedicated group of fosters and volunteers. We strive to improve the lives of senior dogs who find themselves without a family to care for them anymore. We do not have a facility. Our dogs live in our homes as members of our families. We provide care, comfort, companionship and, most of all, unconditional love. We have worked in senior rescue for years, and see the continuing and growing need to get them out of shelters where they are often euthanized because of their age and/or medical reasons, or from owners that find themselves in crisis and no longer able to care for their companions (nursing home, illness, abusive situations, etc).
Senior Dog Haven and Hospice is a registered 501(c)3. All donations to our rescue are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
