My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Warm, bold, and full of heart—Mocha is as special as her name! At 4 years old and 57 lbs, this smart, energetic girl is a mix of shepherd, husky, and likely some herding breed. Her curiosity and energy can get her into mischief, but it also makes her a fast learner when she has someone dedicated to guiding her. Mocha’s past shows she hasn’t always known the love of a human—so she came to us wary and reserved—but with patience, she’s flourished into a loyal, affectionate, and playful companion.

Training & Skills:
Mocha thrives as a one-and-only pup and is happiest when all the love and attention are hers. She’s smart and eager to learn, quickly picking up commands and routines with patience and guidance. Some of her skills include:
- Basic commands: sit, settle, shake, kennel, come, “no ma’am,” and “easy” (for jumping/mouthiness)
- Quick learner: She catches on fast when focused
- Loves structure: Routines and consistent guidance help her shine

Why Mocha is amazing:
- Smart, affectionate, and playful
- Confident in new situations
- Bonds deeply with her people
- Loves being part of the action
- Zoomies? She’s your girl
- Cozy blanket pile? She’s right there

She’s ready to pour all her love into a home that’s just hers—her perfect forever family.

**Mocha is being fostered in Texas. Paid transport can be arranged. Transport costs range from $200-400.**

More about this rescue

Houston Chow Chow Connection is a collaborative of dog lovers and rescuers that dedicate their time, efforts and talents toward helping rescue Chow Chows in need. We are an entirely volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) organization with no administrative costs.

Our rescue traces its origin back several years to the work of Dianne Watson. Dianne dedicated much of her young life to saving homeless Chows in North and West Texas. In her memory, Houston Chow Chow Connection continues her passion of uniting Chow Chows with perfect forever families.

HCCC began rescuing in 2013 and re-homed over 400 dogs since inception, including over 125 in 2017! Our dogs found homes on the East and West coasts of the U.S. and have traveled north and south! As we continue to rescue and re-home more and more Chows, our costs grow. As you may know, rescuing animals takes money. Not only is there the typical care and upkeep (including food and general veterinary care), some of our rescues need specialized treatments.

At HCCC we don’t pick and choose the dogs we rescue – they pick us. While the majority of our rescues are healthy, we never turn our backs on the homeless, Chows with physical issues, or disabilities. Some of our incoming babies have suffered long-term and extensive neglect. New HCCC dogs may require spay/neuter, shaving due to extensive matting, entropion and/or hip replacement surgeries, treatment of skin problems and a variety of other issues.
