Nova was surrendered by a young couple who admittedly didn’t research the breed. They didn’t have the space or the resources to take care of a giant breed and they wanted her to have a life where she could have what she needed. They trimmed her hair short because it was matted which has now grown back to a beautiful, thick curly coat.
Nova LOVES meeting people and enjoys being showered with pets and attention. She’s all about the belly rubs and likes to be close to her people, putting her head on you or sitting on your foot— such a Pyrenees trait! Nova likes to play with other dogs and can also keep herself busy with toys. She’s a calm puppy and hasn’t chewed up anything she shouldn’t chew on— at least not yet. In her young life, Nova has always had other dogs to keep her company so we’re looking for a home for her that has at least one male canine companion. Nova lived with a cat in her former home and cohabitates with cats in her foster home. She is good with kids, is potty trained, and leash trained. And isn’t she just beautiful?!
We think (and so does the vet)
Nova was kept in a crate for long periods before we rescued her. She had difficultly getting up from lying down and had some muscle loss/weakness in her back legs. She’s being treated with an anti-inflammatory and we already see a lot of improvement in her strength. Just shy of 6 months old, Nova has long legs and huge paws and surpassing 60 lbs already, she’s going to be 100 lbs plus when fully grown.
Nova is up to date on core vaccines, microchipped, and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. She will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract with adopter promising to spay at a later date and must provide vet records at that time.
Nova is being fostered near Kansas City
Adoption Requirements
*A secure and visible fence
*A home visit
*A vet reference with at least a two year vet history
Adopters can be located in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, and Arkansas. We are able to help transport to those states.

More about this rescue
Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri is dedicated to rescuing Great Pyrenees who are without a home, need medical attention, or just need a safe haven as they transition to their forever home. We are a volunteer, nonprofit rescue, relying solely on your generous donations. We are currently working to establish our rescue facility in St. Clair, Missouri. Until our facility is constructed, we will be foster based only, with fosters in Missouri and surrounding states. We will continue to have fosters after our facility is built. Our facility will allow us to rescue more Pyrenees in need.
