Meet Smolder: Your Velcro Shadow with a Heart of Gold!
Smolder is a stunning, soulful 3.5 Year old Australian Shepherd who’s been through a lot—but you’d never know it from his joyful spirit. Found abandoned in Georgia, this 60-pound cuddle bug has spent the last six months healing from heartworm treatment in Mooresville, NC and is now ready to find his fur-ever person.
Why You’ll Fall in Love
Smolder is the kind of dog who makes you feel like the most important person in the world. Here’s what makes him so special:
• Velcro Vibes: He’s the ultimate companion—always by your side, following you from room to room like your loyal shadow.
• Gentle Soul: Smolder takes treats with the softest touch and shows zero food aggression. Just a heads-up: bones and toys aren’t always shared as easily, so a little supervision helps.
• Dog-Friendly: He gets along beautifully with our three resident dogs and previously lived with a cat (though we can’t guarantee he’s feline-approved).
• Lap Dog Aspirations: Despite being close to 60 pounds, Smolder is convinced he’s a lap dog. Expect full-body hugs and snuggles every chance he gets.
• Crate Trained & Chill: He’s crate trained but rarely needs it—he’s calm, non-destructive, and happiest just hanging out with his people.
• House-Trained & Communicative: Smolder is fully house-trained and will let you know when he needs to go out. We keep a regular walk schedule, and he’s consistent with his potty routine. If he needs an extra trip, he’ll politely alert you—no guesswork required.
Real Talk: Smolder’s Quirks
We believe in honest advertising—because Smolder deserves a home that truly understands him.
• Barky but Brave: Smolder has a big bark and isn’t afraid to use it when he spots deer, dogs, or people outside. He’s a vigilant watchdog, but apartment living isn’t ideal due to his volume.
• No Small Kids: His love language is physical affection, and while we’ve worked on his enthusiasm, he could easily knock over a toddler in his excitement. He’s best suited for a home with older kids or adults.
• Leash Work in Progress: Smolder is strong and gets very excited when he sees other dogs or wildlife. We’re working on it, but he’ll need someone patient and consistent to help him improve.
• Fenced Yard Preferred: While Smolder is laid-back at home, he benefits from regular exercise. A secure yard gives him the freedom to stretch his legs and enjoy some good old-fashioned zoomies without worry.
Sensitive Soul During Storms
Thunderstorms are tough for Smolder. Despite our best efforts to comfort him (yes, we’ve even tried hemp treats), he’ll often retreat to the walk-in closet and tremble until the skies clear. It’s heartbreaking, but with patience and a safe space, he gets through it. He’ll need a family who understands his fear and can offer calm reassurance when the weather turns wild.
Smolder is ready to give his whole heart to someone who sees him for the loyal, loving goofball he is. If you’re looking for a best friend who’ll never let you feel alone, Smolder might just be your soulmate in fur. Meet and greet required
If you think Smolder is the boy for you and your family please submit our adoption application.
