Wishbone was born deaf as the result of the breeding of two dogs with merle-patterned coats. This genetic condition is known as ''double merle.'' Double merles can live full, happy lives with the appropriate levels of care and support.
Deaf dogs can learn easily through positive reinforcement and hand signals. At Hawaii Island Humane Society, we are dedicated to advocating for dogs with sensory differences like Wishbone and are here to support their future families in helping their new dog grow and thrive.
