Max is a stunning two-year-old shepherd mix and the definition of a loyal buddy. At around 60 pounds, he may seem a little cautious or reserved at first, but give him some time and he’ll show you his true self—a true family member who loves being involved in your life, bringing energy, snuggles, and deep, soulful stares.
Max is house-trained and makes for a great roommate. He's welcome to free-roam in most of the house including when he's home alone, respectful of gated areas. He goes in and out of his large, open kennel throughout the day, occasionally closed in. Otherwise, he's watching passersby, or on the lookout for bunnies and squirrels!
He's happy to let you know when it's time to play—he'll start weaving in and out of your legs before going for a walk. He LOVES playing fetch in the fenced yard, though a fence may not be required with proper training. Indoors, he likes chew toys, stuffies, and snuggling on the bed.
Max has lived with another dog before and loves to play! He settles in very easily when meeting other dogs, and would likely do well with another dog in the home given a proper introduction. He has not been tested with cats.
With the right structure and some extra love, Max will thrive in his forever home. This handsome boy is ready to join the family!

The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.
Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.
Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.
We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.

We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.
We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
