My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Burt was brought in by a community member on October 10, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Burt, a striking rooster looking for a home that can provide proper care and a safe environment where he can thrive! As with all roosters, Burt will do best in a well-maintained outdoor setup that allows him to express his natural behaviors like crowing, foraging and dust bathing. His new home should include a secure, predator-proof coop with adequate space for him and any hens to roost comfortably, as well as access to a protected outdoor run or yard. Fresh water, a balanced poultry diet and enrichment opportunities-such as perches, dust baths and areas to scratch-are essential for keeping Burt healthy and content.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
