My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Waverly

Waverly is a female Malinois/Aussie mix
DOB: June 11th, 2025
Adoption fee: $200

I am a special girl. I can be a lot more reserved and shier than my brothers with new people and new environments. I do have a lot of energy, and I like to get it out by playing with my siblings and toys! I can be quite sweet and goofy; it just may take some time for that side of me to show! I am a very smart girl and ready to learn. I am still working on my confidence and will need some who is willing to work with me on positive introductions to new things. I enjoy attention on my own terms, and I will be sure to let you know when.

I will require someone with experience and knowledge of large breed dogs and herding breeds. I will require a fully fenced yard. I am not fit for an apartment. I would do best in a home with an older male dog looking for a friend and playmate. I have not been tested with cats at this time. I am recommended with children 12+. I will require obedience training. I am a big puppy, and I am sure to keep growing!

I am a sweet girl! I know I will really enjoy going for walks, hikes, and anything active to get my energy out! I will make a great companion for the right people!

More about this shelter

About Us:
We are the area's nonprofit advocate, sanctuary and source for companion animals since 1887.

Our Mission:
-to protect animals from suffering and cruelty
-to provide safe and responsible care for unwanted or abused companion animals
-to enhance the lives of animals and people through education, adoption, and foster care.

We believe in second chances at the Humane Society of South Central Michigan. Our service area includes all of Calhoun County and parts of Kalamazoo, Barry and Branch counties. We keep animals as long as it takes to find a good home for adoption once the animal passes temperament testing and is checked for good health. The Watkins Road shelter cares for up to 100 animals a day, and adopts out more than 500 animals a year. Countless area residents use the Society’s animal care, adoption and education programs each year. The Humane Society is overseen by a board of directors. We do not receive any government or tax dollars, or national humane organization funding. Our services are made possible by people in our community who care about homeless cats and dogs - people like you!

The Humane Society of South Central Michigan values:
-The ethical and humane treatment of animals
-Its role as a shelter for animals that suffer from pain, fear, and neglect
-Community accountability for the welfare of its animals
-Responsible stewardship of our resources
-Community involvement to achieve our goals
-Education about responsible pet ownership
-The joy of sharing a life with animal companions
