Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Douglas, aka Dougie! This tenderhearted gentleman is a heartbreaker in the making.
Dougie was loved dearly by his devoted human for 13 years. Sadly, his person recently moved into a nursing home and Dougie couldn't go with. He is now looking for his own equivalent - a place where he can spend his golden years being loved and cared for.
The change was hard for Dougie at first - he spent his first few weeks in foster in self-imposed solitude, mostly napping or staring wistfully into space (a true philosopher of the canine world). But little by little, step by step, Dougie has made huge strides coming out of his shell.
When his foster mom is nearby, he now walks towards her, wagging his tail and looking for head pats, ear rubs, and back scratches. And instead of sleeping all day, he now confidently explores his foster home. The backyard is his favorite - he adores being outside in the sun, especially visiting Mr. Bunny (who is a statue, and who Dougie appreciates because he's always where he says he will be, every time).
Dougie's hearing and vision aren’t great, so every touch still surprises him a bit. He's looking for a quiet, patient, gentle, adults-only home with humans who will take it slow with him, letting him acclimate at his own pace while cheering him on as he makes progress becoming more active and outgoing. An independent man, Dougie is not big on snuggling right now - this may or may not change as he gets more comfortable.
A fenced-in yard is a must for this sun worshipper - he's not leash-trained nor is he looking to be. He'll need to be carried up and down steps and would do best in a home where his humans are around most or all of the day to let him out for frequent yard excursions and sniffaris. He is basically housebroken but benefits from having pee pads available just in case. He generally sleeps through the night and is fine staying home alone if his people need to step out for errands.
Dougie is a good boy who has hit some hard times. Can you give him the soft landing he deserves?
Douglas is approx 13 years old and 6 lbs.
