My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Vincent — a young pup who’s already come so far.

We believe Vincent came to us as a feral pup, meaning he had very limited positive human contact during early development. Feral behavior is based in fear, not aggression—and with safety, routine, and time, many of these dogs learn to trust and live comfortably in a home. Feral and under-socialized dogs often bond more easily with other dogs than with humans at first, using them for comfort and to understand “how to dog”. That’s completely normal—and many make huge progress once they have a dog to model behavior.

Vincent’s progress in just a few weeks:
• Now seeks out affection and snuggles from his foster mom
• Exploring the house on his own and carrying random items from room to room like a typical puppy.
• Chooses to hang out upstairs nearby while she works
• Frequently found snoozing on the couch with the family

These are major milestones for a dog who once shut down around people.

Vincent is:
• About 7–8 months old
• Very food motivated (we’ll go anywhere you want him to for a green bean)
• Learning quickly and gaining confidence every day
• Showing he can bond, adapt, and thrive
He also bonds quickly with other dogs and looks to them for confidence, which has helped him learn how to be a dog in a home.

Vincent has a bright future ahead and is ready for a family who will continue the gentle, steady support that’s already transforming his world.

If you’d like more information about adopting Vincent, we’d love to hear from you.

More about this rescue

Hound Rescue is always in need of foster homes. We do not have a shelter so our ability to rescue is limited only by the number of families willing to take in a beagle in need. If interested go to http://houndrescue.com and click on "How to Foster."

Hound Rescue started in Austin, Texas in 1998. We are a small group of individuals who foster dogs in our homes. Hound Rescue also provides placement assistance to both shelters and others who need to find homes for hounds who for whatever reason have become stray.

Most of our animals come from high-kill facilities where they were scheduled to be euthanized. Because of the huge numbers of unwanted dogs, Hound Rescue Texas can only take owner surrenders on a limited basis as space permits in our foster home network.
