Hope was found by a sweet family on the side of the road after sustaining severe trauma. Her tail had been ripped away from her spine. Unfortunately this left Hope unable to urinate or defecate on her own, and needing surgery for a complex tail amputation. The family took her to their local shelter, who then reached out for our assistance. Hope became a Misfit!
Hope has been a complete joy to foster. She is an incredibly sensitive, gentle, and loving kitten. Not only is she wonderful with humans, but she is also super affectionate with other animals. Hope is the first to snuggle with another kitten or cat if they aren't feeling well. Her foster refers to her as a little therapy kitten.
Hope does need to be expressed to urinate and defecate, two to three times per day. This is done by holding her in a comfortable position, feeling her abdomen to find her bladder, and gently squeezing it over a puppy pad or other absorbent material until it is empty. Then using the same position, feeling along her colon to palpate any fecal material and with a gentle massage motion downward, she will defecate. Though it requires some guidance and practice, it's a skill that most people can learn and we are happy to teach. Hope's foster says she is very easy to express compared to other incontinent kitties they have fostered. She does wear a diaper in between expressions. This allows her to have complete freedom of her foster home. She rarely leaks between expressions, but if she does, the diaper catches those. The brand she wears is very affordable.
Hope has been spayed, received a tail amputation, vaccinated, microchipped, and has tested negative for FeLV and FIV.
