My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Greenley!
Greenley is a handsome hound mix with a luxuriously fluffy brindle coat and a heart full of hope. He was found wandering a known dumping area for unwanted animals. But from the moment he arrived, the staff saw something special: a gentle soul just waiting to blossom.

Greenley is shy and guarded (especially with men) at first but has made incredible progress with patient love and routine. He takes his time with new people and situations, but each day brings out more of his curious, playful side. He is happy-go-lucky and just wants to be loved. Once he knows you are kind and that he can trust you, he will be your best friend. He`s a dream on the leash, keeps his kennel spotless, and clearly learned some manners in a previous home. He also knows the `sit` command. He gets excited for a walk and will `boop` you if you take too long to put his collar on as if to say, `Hurry up, let`s go!` He rides great in the car, settles in well at night, chewing on his bone and sleeps through the night.
Greenley is treat-motivated and knows exactly how to use his big brown eyes to win them—gently, of course. He loves to play and has not met a dog he doesn`t love to play with. He`s proving he’s not just well-mannered… he’s a joyful goof at heart!

Greenley has spent time in a foster home regularly. He loves playtime with his 2 foster `brother` friends. He runs out into the yard and does a happy dance in the grass when he is happy.
He imagines sunset strolls and shared snacks with someone who sees the magic in quiet moments and daily frolics.

He would do best in a home with another playful dog (which builds his confidence), and a big yard to play in. If you’ve got a yard and a kind heart, Greenley just might be your forever friend.
He is microchipped, neutered, heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccinations.

Additional adoption info

It is the goal of the SJBHS to find a good match for all of our adoptable animals. In that effort, we screen every home before we approve an adoption. In general, SJBHS uses the following guidelines when determining the status of an applicant for adoption, with the understanding that if there is a questionable application, the Executive Director will make the final decision on adoption and may choose to approve applications that fall outside of these general guidelines.
In general, SJBHS does NOT adopt to:
•Homes in which other animals are not current on vaccinations and are not altered
•Homes that have previously given away an animal
All applicants will have to provide their veterinarian information prior to adoption approval.

More about this shelter

St. Joseph Bay Humane Society, Inc. is dedicated to relieve animal suffering, prevent animal cruelty, promote human education and enhance the animal and human bond.

Before SJBHS was founded, conditions at the city and county pounds were deplorable and not likely to get better. Animals were being killed at a rate of approximately 70 per month.

The St. Joseph Bay Humane Society was formed to alleivate the suffering. The Society received it's 501c3 status in 1998.
A new facility was constructed in 2007 and provides safe housing for the homeless animals of our county.

The St. Joseph Bay Humane Society is proud to announce its DAWGS in Prison program, a joint effort with Gulf Correctional Institution.
All of the dogs selected for this program go through an intense 8-week training session and live with their trainers, handlers and caretakers in a dormitory style work camp. All of these dogs have had an extensive temperament test and get along well with other dogs and people. They are available for adoption immediately and will able to go to their forever homes with you after graduation.

We continue to educate the public about the importance of spaying or neutering their pets. We do this through our own adoption events and ongoing community events.

We continue to be successful, thanks to the efforts of our volunteers and fundraisers. Paws in the Park and the Bow Wow Bash are huge seasonal fundraisers for us.
Faith's Thrift Hut one of our other major fundraiser and operates on donations and volunteer workers.
It is located on our property ajacent to the Shelter.
850-227-1109
All donations are tax-deductable and all proceeds go directly toward animal care. The store is open Thursday-Saturday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Volunteers are needed to work during hours of operation.

If you are not in the position to give one of our pets a home right now. Please feel free to donate through our PayPal portal on our website. www.sjbhmanesociety.org
