Sweet 7 year old Lola Dove is a very special girl to us here at Heartland! Lola came to us from a horrendous puppy mill in Wisconsin in early September and when she arrived, she was a shell of a dog that was petrified of everyone and everything. She has spent time at both the shelter and in a quiet foster home slowly coming out of her shell and gaining confidence.
Lola is shy when she first meets new people, but once she has decided she is safe with you, she is so loving! Lola gets so excited when her people walk in the room, she does a whole body wiggle and even smiles! She will sneak up to give you kisses and is so content to cuddle up next to you. Lola adores stuffies and will carry them around and use them as a pillow when she sleeps🥰
Lola has been with her foster mom for over a month now, and her adorable personality is really starting to show. She’s housebroken - and has recently started to go to the door to ask to be left out. She’s fine to leave free roaming, no crate necessary for this girl, and is used to being left alone regularly. She lives with a cat friend and does well sharing her space!
Here is what her foster mom has to say about her. “Lola Dove has made an amazing amount of progress. The first week she did a lot of sleeping and I had to put the leash on her to get her to go outside. By week two she'd follow me outside without the leash. At week three she was following me around the yard and now she'll run around like crazy in the yard (she loves snow and doesn't mind going out in the rain either). I'm noticing that she is becoming more relaxed every day. She greets me when I come home and wants to be by my side when I'm watching TV, she's a big fan of Law and Order reruns and will happily snuggle on the couch and binge watch just about anything. Lola Dove has learned not to try to scoot out the door, I just say wait and she knows she's not coming with. Lola Dove was sleeping in my family room for the first few weeks, then one morning when I woke up she was sleeping on the floor next to my bed. She has not tried to get in the bed, which is fine with me but now I have a bed for her in my room and the living room, when it's bed time, she heads to my room and curls up in her bed. I am enjoying watching her blossom into a more confident dog!”
Lola needs a special, quiet home that will understand her needs and give her the patience/ space she needs to blossom, but we know that home is out there for her! Please inquire about Lola Dove today if you are looking to make a difference in the life of a special dog!
Lola Dove’s adoption fee has been generously sponsored. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
