Meet Candy Apple! This darling little girl is a 6 month old, 10 pound Chihuahua blend who joined us recently and is looking for her forever home. She's an affectionate, cuddly girl, who has energy typical for her age. She is very food motivated, so she learns quickly. She's working on her basic commands and has almost mastered "sit." She gains confidence with other dogs, and would likely do best in a home with another playful dog. Her favorite activities include playing with balls or squeaky toys, chasing her canine foster sibling, and being near her humans. Her favorite place to sleep is with her human/s, right next to their head. She's currently living in a foster home with other dogs, and will be at our adoption center on Saturdays until adopted!
No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Please go to our website (www.azfriends.org) to fill out a consultation form then come and see us! We do require any family interested in meeting our dogs or cats to fill out a consultation form – this form helps us determine if the dog/cat and the home are a good match, since it is so easy to fall in love with a photo, without knowing the personality of the animal. Once you have filled out the online Adoption Consultation Form, just come in and see us (or come and see us and fill out the consultation form upon arrival)!
Please note that ALL dogs and cats are available to the first home that meets the dog or cat that we feel is a good match. In order to help make the best match, we do want all family members (dogs and humans) to meet any potential new family member.
Our adoption center hours are: Closed Sunday/Monday; Tuesday 10a-2p, Wednesday 3p-7p, Thursday 3p-7p, Friday 10a-2p, Saturday 10a-4p. We are located at 952 W Melody Avenue in Gilbert (zip code 85233).All animals are altered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, licensed (dogs). Cats tested for FELV/FIV. Dogs tested for Heartworm. All animals are available to the first family that is a good match, and if we have more than one animal who is a good match, there will be a lottery for all matches. Note that families must have come in to our adoption center and spoken with an adoption counselor prior to any lottery (when we have lotteries, they usually occur on Saturday mornings).

Sign Adoption Contract
We require intros with all family members and dogs (if adopting a dog), then if all goes well and it's a good match we'll move forward!

Take the Pet Home
Contract is signed, everyone has met, and the dog or cat goes home!

All potential adoptive homes must complete the adoption consultation form. All adoptive parents must agree to terms of the adoption contract which will be reviewed at the time of adoption. Dog adoptions are typically $350-$495 (depending on age, breed, etc) and cat adoptions start at $175.00 for adults and $225 for kittens (also depend on age). Senior animals are always lower adoption fees. All animals have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Cats have also been FeLV/FIV tested. Dogs are also licensed per county law.

Started in 1993 Friends for Life maintains an adoption center for it's rescued animals, a low-cost spay and neuter program (grant-funded), and a network of foster homes. Friends for Life also attends off-site locations to adopt the homeless cats and dogs and the organization is always looking for help. Friends for Life does not have a veterinarian on site or on staff. We utilize discounted services of veterinarians kind enough to do so for our rescued animals.
