My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! My name is Taylor!

I`m a loving girl who can be timid meeting new people but since being at GHS I`ve come out of my shell beautifully and seem to be less timid with strangers. I am a petite little thing, not even 60 pounds! My new family should know that I work as a part-time digger and will help with any gardening needs you have or even snow removal. I like to dig holes for my toys and then cover them up by shoveling dirt over it with my nose. I may sometimes bark at dogs on leash if they are too close. But with a bit of space and some positive reinforcement with treats, I have made really nice progress so far! I am a snuggly and affectionate girl and at the end of the day I`m just looking for a loving home that will show me what a good girl I am.

MY IDEAL HOME INVOLVES…
CHILDREN: Teenagers may be ok but no young children given my timid nature.
OTHER DOGS: Potentially, I have lived with dogs before but I can be very selective and often don`t make a good first impression. If you have questions or would like more information about how I am with other dogs before applying, please email adoptions@guelphhumane.ca
CATS: Potentially, with a cat experienced with and comfortable living with dogs.
FIRST-TIME DOG OWNERS: I would do best with someone who has previous dog experience.
FENCED-IN YARD: Recommended.
HOUSING ENVIRONMENT: Any with yard preferred. Rural would also be great!
SOMEONE HOME MOST OF THE DAY: Not necessarily.

SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME…
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium.
HOUSE-TRAINED: Yes.

More about this shelter

For 125 years, the Guelph Humane Society has been dedicated to protecting and caring for the many animals with whom we share our community and our lives, and to fostering the important bonds with animals that enrich us as individuals, families and communities. Founded in 1893, the Guelph Humane Society provides care and shelter for more than 3,000 homeless, stray, injured, and abused animals each year throughout Guelph and Wellington County.

Our programs are delivered by an enthusiastic team of staff with many years of experience in animal care and welfare. In addition to paid staff, we are lucky to have over 400 active volunteers who provide thousands of hours of service each year and generously share their skills and ideas.

The Guelph Humane Society has a strong working relationship with local, provincial, and national animal welfare organizations; local school boards; the City of Guelph; Township of Centre Wellington; Township of Guelph-Eramosa; local veterinarians; the Ontario Veterinary College Health Sciences Centre at the University of Guelph; and Guelph Police Services and the Provincial Crown Attorney’s Office. We are an affiliate society of the Ontario SPCA, and proud member of the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS).

Our organization is guided by a Board of Directors made up of volunteers with a wide range of skills and business experience. The Board also convenes several ad hoc committees, which work to address specific issues. Day-to-day operations of the shelter are managed by the Executive Director and senior staff with the Board’s general guidance.

We are a registered charitable, non-profit organization that does not receive government funding. As such, we depend on your donations and private funding to support our important work. The Guelph Humane Society charitable registration number is 119236305RR0001.
