Their adoption process
Interviews will be conducted within 48 hours of submission, though we strive to do them as soon as possible. In several cases, the review team will need to verify the application before a final determination can be made.
Adoption steps
- Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
- Visit the Kapolei or Mililani PetSmart to spend time with our adoptable cats or attend a dog adoption event for a meet and greet.
- Submit Application
- Submit your application (this application is also your adoption contract).
- Interview
- An adoption coordinator will call and complete a telephonic interview.
- Approve Application
- The adoption coordinator may be able to approve the application during the interview, or the review team may need to consult.
- Meet the Pet
- Once approved, a meet and greet is scheduled at the adoption center.
- Pay Fee
- Once the pet is selected, adoption fee is then paid.
- Take the Pet Home
- Take your new family member to their fur-ever home!

We are located within the Kapolei and Mililani PetSmart adoption centers. We have staff on site Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 6pm, and Monday-Friday by appointment only.
Dog adoption events are ran based on availability, and future events can be found on our Facebook or Instagram, Poi Dogs and Popoki.

At Poi Dogs & Popoki, our mission is to reduce Oahu's high euthanasia rate. We are dedicated to promoting animal welfare and ensuring that every animal has the chance to find a loving forever home. Poi Dogs & Popoki has been serving the community for almost 15 years. We are a small, volunteer-run organization and have grown to become one of the most respected foster based animal rescues on Oahu. Our dedication to the rescue and care of animals is what drives us every day. We have no paid staff and rely on the love and support of volunteers. And the generous donations of animal lovers enables us to rescue and care for animals in need.
