Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Mako is ready for his forever home 💙
He may be the type of puppy that makes you wonder why you got a puppy at times, but those ones always end up being the best ones! You are going to learn so much as you walk through life with his silly, clumsy little fella by your side. You also won’t go a single day without laughing at something ridiculous he’ll do, life is much more fun with a Mako in it.
He’s the epitome of a class clown, and is looking for a forever home with someone that doesn’t take life too seriously. If you’re looking for puppy perfection, please continue your search.
He IS super fun though. He can be trusted to self entertain and as much of a baby shark as he can be, he leaves non dog intended items alone. He’s incredibly social, almost too social at times, and isnt afraid to let you (and everyone else) know he feels left out. He is not shy, nor will he be afraid of or ignore your guests. He has no issues with being alone for a work day, and sleeps through the night only vocalizing when he is up and ready to go out. He travels well, loves his car crate. Has been enjoying getting out for neighborhood walks. He’s busy and drivey and would probably excel as a sport dog, with consideration for his missing limb (not that it slows him down any).
This dog is smart. He’s the kind of smart that you have to put to good use and challenge daily. He’s a wizard with a food toy and will help you test all your at home enrichment ideas. As smart as he is, he’s also a bit of an airhead. The amount of times he falls, misses the intended jump, runs into a door or straight into your legs per day will leave you wondering if he lost a few brain cells along with his leg. He means well, but bless his heart. He’d be best suited for a home with humans who are sturdy on their feet and not a fall risk.
He’ll do okay in a home with dogs if they are extremely tolerant of his exuberance and full contact play style. Please don’t subject your senior dog to him. They deserve peace that does not exist with him. He runs through life with an open mouth, and while we are getting better, parts of your dog (or cat) may still end up in there.
I would prefer his forever home either not have stairs, or have stairs that have carpeting/treads. Same goes for flooring, rugs will help on wood floors as he does slip and we want to protect his other limbs and joints at all costs.
Mako is a little love, but he’s still learning how to dog in a way that doesn’t raise your blood pressure. He’ll need you to cut him some slack as he continues to learn boundaries. Not all dogs learn appropriate behaviors at the appropriate time, but we’re trying to catch up! While the drunk frat boy does still show up at times, ive seen so much improvement over the last month or so. He truly gets better and easier to live with each day and I feel like he can definitely be successful in a new place.
He’s about 6 months old, 30lbs, fully vetted and ready to be your best friend! He knows his name, sit, down, has an amazing recall, hand target, knows which door to ask to go out from, and keeps his crate clean.
I refuse to sugar coat things and act like he’s not a puppy because that helps no one. But if you’re still with me and think he’s the one for you, apply at mercysdoorpetrescue.org.
Thank you for considering my little Mako man! 🦈
