Meet Taj!
Taj is a handsome, affectionate kitty with a dog-like personality—he loves to follow his people around, chat with them, and soak up all the attention he can get. If you’ve ever wished for a cat with the loyalty of a pup, Taj might be your perfect match!

When Taj first came to us, he was struggling with a severe case of megacolon. With treatment and care, he’s been doing wonderfully and hasn’t needed any medical intervention in months. While this condition can sometimes relapse, with monitoring and an understanding adopter, Taj is expected to continue living a happy, healthy life.

Taj is a little more on the needy side, but in the best way—he thrives on companionship and will be your shadow, best friend, and biggest fan.

If you’re looking for a super sweet cat with a heart full of love (and a voice to tell you all about it), Taj is waiting to meet you.

Taj is FIV positive which is not a death sentence. FIV positive kitties can live long full lives even with other kitties.

Here's why FIV in cats is not what many people think:

1. FIV is not a death sentence:

Many FIV-positive cats can live long, healthy lives with a normal lifespan, especially with proper care.
FIV is a slow virus and can take years before it has any noticeable impact on a cat's health.
Some FIV-positive cats never show symptoms of the virus.

2. FIV is not easily transmitted:

FIV is primarily spread through deep bite wounds, usually from serious fighting, and not through casual contact like sharing food bowls, litter boxes, or mutual grooming.
The virus is fragile and does not survive long outside the body.
FIV is species-specific and cannot be transmitted to humans, dogs, or other non-feline animals.

3. FIV-positive cats can live with FIV-negative cats:

If introduced properly and kept indoors, FIV-positive and negative cats can coexist peacefully without a high risk of transmission.
Spaying and neutering cats can reduce fighting behavior, minimizing the risk of bite wounds.

4. FIV-positive cats still need love and good care:

Just like any cat, FIV-positive cats require a high-quality diet, regular veterinary checkups, and a low-stress environment.
Being kept indoors is especially important for FIV-positive cats to minimize exposure to potential infections.

5. A positive FIV test doesn't automatically mean a cat has Feline AIDS:

FIV is similar to HIV in humans, but being FIV-positive doesn't equate to having Feline AIDS.
Feline AIDS, which describes the later stages of the disease, may take years to develop or may never occur.

In conclusion, FIV is a manageable condition that should not prevent cats from finding loving homes. FIV-positive cats can be wonderful companions and deserve the same chance at a happy life as any other cat.

Each of our rescues will be COMPLETELY vetted (which includes a combo test, worming, spay/neutered, vaccines, and micro-chipping). We do all in our power to assure our rescues are as healthy as possible and live a long happy life.

There is always a chance that an animal we have rescued will have a genetic health issue (since they are rescues there is no way that we can know their family history) or one of our tests falls in that low percentage of false-negative category or a they contract a rare disease that we have no way of knowing about or they contract under your care. We cannot guarantee 100% that your pet will live the 15 to 20 years we hope for but with all that we do for them, the chances are incredibly strong that they will.

Transportation fees, when applicable, vary by distance/expense.

We are asking for an adoption donation of $168.
On most animals, a tax-deductible adoption donation of $168 is required upon approved adoption application. (This is a fraction of our vet expenses and you are always welcome to donate more.) HOWEVER, when we rescue a special breed, ridiculously adorable, or unusual color, we ask for a higher donation which helps towards our vet expenses.

Submit Application

We have an application process to assure that adopters understand the commitment. Our base adoption donation is $148 but may ask more.

Interview

Our applications are detailed so that we have the information we need to make sure our rescues go into safe, loving permanent homes.

Meet the Pet

A meet and greet is always necessary to be sure the chemistry between adoptive family or person is compatible.

4.
Interview

We interview not only their references and vet but also the responsible parties if something happens to them.

5.
Approve Application

Once application is approved we still want to be sure that they understand that this is a long term commitment.

6.
Home Check

Home checks are not always conducted, especially for cats & kittens but for dogs, we always want to check to be sure fences are in order.

7.
Take the Pet Home

We understand that sometimes a new pet does not work out no matter how hard we try. We will always take our rescues back.

Go meet their pets

We are partnered with PetSmart and have cats in four windows there at all times. We also have monthly adoptions there as well as the Waggy Tail in Fairhope, Alabama which is a grooming and pet supplies shop that also fosters a few kittens at a time.
We have public indoor adoptions at many other venues. Coming up, we have two events on July 27th at the 2019.

More about this rescue

The Stray Love Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit animal advocacy organization tasked with pursuing the health and welfare of animals in the South Alabama region. The organization began formally advocating for the local animal community in 2010 and, as a foster based animal rescue group has since placed over 1,200 animals in stable, safe and loving homes locally and throughout the country. The Stray Love Foundation has four primary missions: (1) To assist stray, injured and abandoned animals through vet care, fostering, and adoption; (2) TNR projects (trap, neuter, return) with the assistance of the Foley Police Department; (3) To facilitate and support the elderly and indigent with pet care, including vet costs, spay/neuter, and re-homing as necessary (also known as our Big Love Projects); and (4) To provide educational outreach programs to children and local groups to build awareness of the importance of companion animals as well as the importance of kind and compassionate treatment towards all animals.
