My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please fully read Coco's bio before applying:

Coco is a tiny guy weighing just 9 pounds. He came into rescue when his owner moved. Coco will need an experienced and willing adopter to work with some of Coco's behaviors which stem from fear and mistrust. Ongoing training for this little guy is needed.

 Environment:

Coco is looking for a home without a lot of people coming and going. He's especially mistrustful of strangers and would benefit from continued training to boost his confidence. Coco should not live in a home with children. He would do well in most home types, but likely not a large building with the opportunity for a lot of stranger danger. A fenced yard would be great for Coco, but it is not required. He walks on leash but will demonstrate reactions to people on a walk.

Pets & People:

Coco is fear reactive to unfamiliar people. In the safety of his home space, he seeks out comfort from his humans. He has the ability to make trusting relationships with his caregivers. Coco needs to be the only pet in the home due to jealousy and resource guarding tendencies.

Location:

Coco is currently being fostered in Herndon, Virginia. He can travel a reasonable distance to his forever home. Please email fosternorth@littlepawsdr.org  for any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Coco is $325.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
